A Little about Me:
I'm originally from New York - and moved to California in 1981. Over the years I have lived in Los Angeles County, Orange County and now proudly reside in Riverside County. I moved to Wildomar nearly 3 years ago just before I got married to my husband Shawn. Shawn has lived in Temecula area since 1976 and went to Elsinore High School. I have two step children, and one is getting married in September.
My experience, which makes me an ideal candidate, started after I finished my BA in Journalism from California State University Long Beach. I was a reporter for KLON Radio and a contributor to Associated Press (AP) Radio, where I covered the OJ trial and the Los Angeles City beat. After six years of reporting - I jumped into Technology where I ran public relations, media relations, analyst relations and channel programs departments globally at Linksys. I was also on the team that invented and brought the Home Internet Router to market in 1999. In 2003, Linksys was purchased by Cisco Systems and I became the Global Director of Communications running the Cisco Consumer Division which included Linksys, WebEx and Flip Video brands. In 2013, Cisco sold the Linksys division to Belkin International and I ran the Global Corporate Communications department for the Linksys, Belkin, Wemo and Phyn brands. I was in charge of the media relations, analyst relations, political affairs, internal communications, crisis communications and executive communications functions globally. My main responsibilities were building and executing communication strategies for product launches and executive thought leadership campaigns. After Belkin was sold to Foxconn in 2018 - I branched out and have been running my own communication consultant business working with companies such as Amazon, Johnson & Johnson Vision, Kensington, Kanex, 3DRoomRendering, and Bunzzup to name a few.
Why I'm running for City Council:
Since moving to Wildomar, I've been very passionate about helping to improve our city. I have seen a strong push to grow our city without regard for improvement or safety of the community, neighborhoods, schools or local businesses. Our city is facing many challenges without plans to fix or make improvements. I want to work with residents and lawmakers to address the low/no income housing and home shelters going in (which is impacting our schools and neighborhoods), the ongoing septic issues, flooding and lack of attention to our roads and community safety. My goal is to ensure our voice is consistently heard to shape and improve District 4.
As a 25-year communication executive, building and implementing corporate strategies, I want to improve how the city communicates with their constituents to a more personal and direct approach. It’ll be about listening and understanding the issues so we can find solutions or work with necessary stakeholders that can actually help. I have found listening to many residents here in District 4 that the City Council could be more helpful in getting meetings set up with other stakeholders that can help them resolve issues. They have been told to just go talk to so and so... I want to help set up meetings, be involved in discussions with residents and key stakeholders. I'm prepared to get involved and be a real advocate for our District 4 residents.
I also feel there is much need for improved communications for resident-attended city meetings so attendees are clear on items being discussed and what the follow up actions are. I would like to set up better communication avenues to inform residents of things happening in to the city, as well as get constructive feedback on events, meetings, projects and new businesses coming into the city.
I will be walking around District 4 on my Walking Wildomar tour, over the next couple of months to get to know you and hear your concerns so if I'm elected - I can immediately start to work with you. If you see me in your neighborhood - please stop me and say hello! I'm looking forward to working for you!
It's Time for Change in Wildomar for the Better! - District 4
